Urinary Infection- Diagnosis

If you think you are developing a urinary infection and it is your first time, than you are strongly advised to pay your doctor a visit for checkup. Most chronic conditions of urinary infection result from a first urinary infection that is not diagnosed and treated properly.

The diagnosis of a urinary infection is based on a urine sample test. The doctor analyzes the urine sample to find out if there are bacteria present in the white cells, and if so- what type and condensation of bacteria. The presence of red blood cells and puss in the urine are further indications of a urinary infection.

The results of the diagnostic test should determine the type of urinary infection the patient is suffering from, and the proper antibiotic to prescribe. In some cases a pelvic exam might also be needed in order to negate the possibility of a more serious urinary infection.

If the urinary infection is not cleared up after an antibiotic treatment and the source of that urinary infection is still traced to the same bacteria, the doctor may initiate some further tests in order to negate abnormality of the urinary system as a secondary cause for the urinary infection.
